Abstract:

Multichannel frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar system can improve the accuracy and reliability of the vital sign detection. A vital sign detection algorithm for multichannel FMCW radar is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm utilizes the maximum ratio combing (MRC) technique to combine the phase signals from different channels. And the variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm is applied to decompose the combined phase signal into a number of intrinsic mode components. Finally the respiration and heartbeat signals can be accurately reconstructed using the mode judgement criteria. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method can improve the estimation accuracies of respiration and heartbeat frequencies using the multichannel measurement data.
