Abstract:

This paper examines the design robustness and sensitivity of a miniature electromagnetic power generator that is used to power a connected wireless switch. The use of an electrodynamic-based miniature energy harvester along with a wireless data transmitter affords intelligent solution for electrical distribution on the residential market, based on a wiring devices system with flexibility features to enable inhabitants to implement scalability and evolution by themselves. Testing and simulation results revealed that in room temperature conditions of operation, the 7 cm × 7 cm × 3 cm battery-less switch delivers energy of 375 µJ, and achieves output peak absolute voltage of 14.12 V.
