Abstract:

The coherent (pilot sequence based detection) and noncoherent (differentially encoded PSK modulation) detection algorithms of FTN signaling is discussed in this paper. A comparison of coherent and noncoherent detection algorithms is presented, by BER performance and spectral efficiency. It is shown above 13 dB signal-to-noise ratio noncoherent detection algorithm provides at least 5 % gain in spectral efficiency with no energy loss for a bit error probability Pe=10⁁(−2), 10⁁(−5), while providing a receiver with a much lower computational complexity.
