Abstract:

Since its birth in the late 1980s, digital storytelling (DST) has been widely used in various fields, especially in education. DST has been confirmed a powerful educational tool. This paper makes a scientometric analysis of the research phases’ trends and focuses on the study of DST in Chinese education by using the CiteSpace System, based on the data of the research papers published between 2005 to 2021, which is retrieved from the CNKI database. It finds that researches on DST in Chinese education from 2005 to 2021 proceed in three distinct phases: the preliminary phase (2005-2009), the acceleration phase (2009-2017), and the mature phase (2017-2021), and that the studies are extended from the technological studies to the application studies. The top six keywords in the field are respectively DST, information technology, information literacy, designing, stimulating students, and primary school mathematics. The application of DST in primary education has been the newly emerged research focus and trend.
