Abstract:
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar can effectively obtain a large virtual array aperture. With the development of application requirements of the MIMO radar, it is necessary to further improve the angular resolution under the certain number of antennas and the certain physical aperture. Further, the MIMO array should be designed according to practical applications. Hence in this paper, the genetic algorithm is used to design the antenna array with several constraints on the practical application requirements. These constraints include the aperture of the transmitting and receiving array, the minimum array element spacing, and the range of array element positions. The design process of a MIMO array is described in detail, and the experimental results of a MIMO array with 9 transmitter and 12 receiver is given to demonstrate its effectiveness.
