Abstract:
A multi-layer low-profile aperture-coupled antenna is proposed to get broadband and good performance, where the radiator is a slotted circular patch fed by using a microstrip line installing under its bottom via an H-shaped slot centered on ground. When the feed slot is etched below the central of the circular patch, two resonance modes are excited simultaneously. Also, the devised antenna is analyzed and optimized using characteristic mode analysis (CMA) to reveal potential patterns. The grid-slotted patch helps to obtain a very low profile of only 0.06 \lambda_{{0}} (\lambda _{{0}} is center wavelength in free space) as well as a wide impedance bandwidth (S11 <−10dB) of 28.6%. Moreover, the average gain at 3.5-GHz band is 9.0-dBi and efficiency foe the antenna is better than 80% with a cross-polarization <-20 dB
