Abstract:
In this paper, we focus on the problem of resource allocation for time-varying traffic in translucent space-division multiplexing (SDM) elastic optical networks (EON) with back-to-back (B2B) signal regeneration. The performance is measured in terms of bandwidth blocking probability, usage of spectral resource (i.e. minimizing allocated bandwidth overhead compared to required traffic) and number of lightpaths' reallocations. We formulate and evaluate an effective algorithm for time-varying traffic allocation. Simulations are run on a representative network topology with time-varying traffic based on several types of network services with different underlying stochastic processes in order to properly model the real traffic.
