Abstract:
Multimode fiber interferometer signals caused by laser optical frequency scanning have been investigated for different lengths of parabolic- and step-index multimode fibers with different excitation conditions. Fiber Bragg grating interrogator based on tunable light source was utilized in the experiments. Experimental results match qualitatively with theoretical dependences: parabolic-index core profile leads to significant decrease of interferometer sensitivity to laser frequency changes in comparison with step-index profile, while the sensitivity increases with the increase of multimode fiber length and with the number of excited modes. The use of widely-tuned scanning laser of the FBG interrogator enables to exclude the necessity of using long fibers that simplifies the experiments.
