Abstract:

An electrical equivalent cascade model for a thin radial disc piezo based sensor for resonance frequency analysis has been proposed in this paper. As the sensor consists of a piezo element attached with a metallic strip, the characteristics of the sensor will depend on the nature of vibration of the piezo element. The characteristics of the piezo and the sensor have been analyzed in terms of their impedances. To get the impedance response, the piezo is excited by an external electrical excitation, as a result of which, the piezo vibrates. This vibration, again, in turn produces electrical voltage across the piezo element. Thus the piezo as an actuator as well as a generator, both are to be considered while modeling. The present study proposes a cascade model of three blocks: a capacitance, an actuator and a generator, to represent the piezo characteristics as an actuator and a generator as well. The proposed model has been validated against experimental impedance responses.
