Abstract:
The Construction of clusters and designing a cluster based routing algorithm is a point of paramount significance in WSN. The impoverish design of clustering algorithm ends up in improper cluster head selection. In this paper, a new concept called “Sleeping Mode” is introduced for weighted clustering in which an isolated node is never considered as a cluster head, thus the energy for relaying and sensing for messages is preserved. Obviously discarding the isolated nodes as cluster heads is a sensible choice to prevent unnecessary energy loss of the nodes thus increasing network lifetime. Simulation experiments are performed to measure the performance of our algorithm in terms of the number of clusterheads formed. Results depicts that our algorithm has better performance compared to the existing algorithm and is also compatible with all the network conditions.
