Abstract:
Adaptive filtering is the concept of changing filter coefficients over time to adapt to changing signal characteristics. Adaptive filters are employed for a variety of wireless related applications such as wireless communication, MIMO systems, wireless sensor networks, and many more. The two most commonly used adaptive filter algorithms are Least Mean Square (LMS) and Recursive Least Square (RLS). Systems capable of reconfiguring itself to perform different functionalities are called as Reconfigurable systems and design of such systems are in huge demand to cater for scarcity of on-board hardware resources. In this paper, an attempt is made to design and implement reconfigurable adaptive filter that can reconfigure itself on-the-fly to function as either LMS, NLMS or RLS filter based on the user requirements. It is observed that a maximum of 87% hardware resources and 43.39% of power is saved on using proposed reconfigurable adaptive filter.
