Abstract:
In this paper we investigate gait recognition in children's walking under special circumstances. Gait research so far has only focused on adult walking and mostly under normal walking conditions. This paper confirms that the results for adult walking under special circumstances also apply to children's walking. In this paper we show that the performance of children's walking while carrying an object actually improves on the performance when walking normally, but when asked to walk fast the walking becomes unstable, resulting in a higher Equal Error Rate (EER). Furthermore we show that using a single template obtained from normal walking does not perform well when children can walk under various different circumstances.
