Chapter Abstract:
Summary
This chapter discusses various future research opportunities related to integrating visible light communication (VLC) with 6G networks. Key areas include the seamless integration of VLC with terahertz (THz) communication to provide comprehensive indoor and outdoor connectivity. Advanced modulation and coding schemes are examined to address challenges like flicker mitigation, nonlinear distortion, and ambient light interference. The chapter also explores hybrid VLC‐RF network architectures for enhanced coverage and reliability, and the application of massive multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) and beamforming techniques to improve spectral efficiency. Network slicing and service differentiation mechanisms are analyzed to optimize resource allocation for diverse applications. Additionally, the development of energy‐efficient VLC systems is proposed to ensure sustainable communication, alongside advanced security and privacy measures to protect VLC transmissions. This chapter highlights the innovations needed to fully harness VLC's potential within 6G networks, paving the way for high‐speed, secure, and energy‐efficient wireless communication.
