Abstract:

Boost converters are vital in various power electronics applications including power supplies, battery charging circuits, LED drivers, and renewable energy systems. They efficiently step up low voltage inputs to higher voltage outputs, making them indispensable across diverse industries. This paper offers a thorough exploration of the boost converter circuit, detailing the development of its small-signal state space model and transfer function. To control the circuit, pole placement, linear quadratic regulator (LQR), PI controller, active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) techniques are employed. The resulting step responses of each controller are compared. Analysis and simulation results demonstrate that the LQR is the most effective controller in achieving the desired step response by reducing settling time and overshoot. This study offers valuable insights for designing and controlling boost converter circuits in practical applications.
