Abstract:
Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) plays a crucial role in the power system by satisfying consumer demand through the proper allocation of the generating systems. The results in reduced generation costs and, consequently, provides economic benefits to society. In this paper, the authors introduce green power sources such as solar and battery with the conventional thermal energy sources, demonstrating that not only does it fulfill the load demand, but it also reduces dependency on conventional thermal power plants, thereby contributing to environmental conservation. A bio-inspired, metaheuristic technique, i.e., the Boosted Sooty Tern Optimization Algorithm (BSTOA), is employed to solve a test system comprised of fifteen thermal, two solar, and one battery power unit in the ELD problem. BSTOA presents three strategies, namely exploration/exploitation, selfadaptive control parameters, and population reduction, which are employed to achieve optimal results. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and computational proficiency of the proposed methodology.
