Abstract:
With the widespread adoption of BIM in the construction industry, it has become an important data source for energy performance simulations. Building Digital Twin as the next step in the evolution of managing building-related digital information represents a more advanced source of information in terms of data types accumulated, but at the same time, it enhances interoperability problems accompanying the process. This study investigates general patterns of the current BIM to BEM transformation workflow, with a particular focus on the geometry transformation process and the underlying interoperability issues. Based on this analysis the study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the geometric data requirements for BEM in the context of DT and dynamic data usage, as well as the interoperability challenges associated with exchanging information via the IFC schema and its modification to facilitate seamless data exchange via API usage in DT.
