I. Introduction
A large number of road accidents occur all over the world. The main cause of many of these traffic collisions is reckless driving. Traffic has increased dramatically over the world, however there are no effective measures to control this traffic or monitor the speed of running vehicles. Thus, to overcome this problem and reduce the number of death rates that occur due to traffic collisions, it is necessary to introduce an innovative speed enforcement technology. In current systems, to detect reckless driving, police use a portable radar gun and aim at the vehicle to record its speed. If the speed of the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the nearest police station will be informed to stop the speeding vehicle. This process takes longer, and compared to the continuous increase in traffic, this system cannot be trusted with people's lives. In this paper, two Laser sensors, each consisting of a Laser transmitter and a receiver (phototransistor) are placed on both sides of the road. When any vehicle crosses the two sensors, the time between activation of the first and the second sensors is measured and the speed of the vehicle is calculated by the PLC. If this speed exceeds the limit speed, a speed camera will be activated which will capture an image of that vehicle and an SMS will be sent by the CMR to the traffic authority to inform them about the violation. The vehicle speed detection system is a passive system because it only monitors the vehicles' speed rather than controls them..
