Abstract:
Gamelan is Javanese traditional orchestra music, and this study was part of the main project called the Gamelan Metaverse, a project that aims to develop a virtual Gamelan world in the Metaverse by utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) technology with the support of an immersive 3D environment. The Multiplayer Virtual Reality Game (MVRG) approach was considered suitable to support the experience of learning and playing orchestral music through the virtual world. Oculus Quest 2 which is a Head Mounted Displays (HMD) device was chosen as the platform to run the MVRG of Gamelan music. HMD is a device that can deliver highly immersive 3D environments. Traditional 3D modeling technique was chosen to transform real Gamelan instruments into 3D objects. This technique was chosen because of its flexibility in controlling the number of vertices and polygons for modeling 3D objects. Low-poly 3D models were targeted for reducing rendering costs in order to reduce latency risk. The evaluation carried out to measure the performance of the MVRG of Gamelan music shows promising results, where users who act as instructors, musicians, singers, and spectators can implement activities in the real Gamelan world into a virtual world with immersive sensations.
