Abstract:

Integrating renewable energy into power systems has positive and challenging impacts on reliability. Challenges include intermittency and variability, grid integration, planning, and forecasting associated with renewable energy and power system reliability. Various strategies are employed to address these challenges and ensure power system reliability. The proposed work suggests a reliability improvement technique considering wind and solar renewable energy sources (RES). The technique has been implemented on the two benchmark systems (BS), the IEEE 33-bus distribution system and the IEEE 24-bus reliability test systems (RTS). Firstly, the losses and voltage profile have been obtained considering no RES (Scenario 1). Secondly, both test systems are tested with one RES (Scenario 2). Third, the systems are tested with two RESs (Scenario 3). Finally, the reliability in different scenarios is calculated for the unity power factor, and it is concluded that the reliability has improved considerably in the third scenario compared to the first.
