Abstract:

Filter bank multi-carrier using offset quadrature amplitude modulation (FBMC/OQAM) has been considered a promising multi-carrier technique for future wireless communication systems due to its outstanding spectral efficiency characteristics. Ternary phase shift keying (TPSK) is an emerging and promising modulation scheme that achieves a lower error rate and lower peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) compared to 4-QAM. This paper proposes exploiting TPSK with FBMC to boost its robustness in multiple inputs multiple outputs (MIMO) channels. The implementation of FBMC in the MIMO fading channel is negatively influenced by several types of interference, such as inter-symbol interference (ISI), inter-carrier interference (ICI), and inter-antenna interference (IAI). For that, a polynomial matrix pseudo-inverse-based equalizer was utilized to mitigate these effects. Simulation results show an improvement in the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed system (FBMC/OTSK) compared to FBMC/OQAM in the MIMO environment.
