Abstract:
Green computing aims to develop and utilize computer systems in an environmentally sustainable manner, focusing on reducing energy consumption, minimizing e-waste, and incorporating renewable energy sources. This work presents a guide promoting green computing practices, specifically tailored to the context of web crawling. By optimizing code and architecture, leveraging efficient hardware, and utilizing cloud-based computing resources, energy consumption in web crawlers can be significantly reduced. Additionally, employing a hashing function and implementing anomaly detection techniques facilitates efficient resource usage and enables the detection of infected content. This guide addresses the importance of hash distribution techniques that allocate URLs based on their characteristics, optimizing the workload distribution and energy consumption. It also investigates the security benefits of hash distribution, mitigating targeted attacks and enhancing the overall robustness of the crawling system.
