Abstract:
This research work proposes a cost-effective and eco-friendly smart street light system based on IoT to address two critical issues: energy conservation and disposal of incandescent lamps. This study outlines the proposed methodology, which includes the use of individual sensors around each lamp, namely LDR and IR sensors. The LDR sensor detects natural light’s intensity and determines whether to power on the lamps, while the IR sensor detects any moving object’s presence and controls the illumination of the lamps. The proposed system eliminates the need for manual operation and conserves energy by turning ON the lights only when necessary. Moreover, this study also lists the necessary hardware and software components required to implement the proposed model in real-time, including the Arduino UNO microcontroller board, LDR, IR sensor, breadboard, LED, and wires, as well as the software application known as the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Overall, this research work provides a comprehensive overview on implementing a smart street light monitoring system to significantly reduce energy consumption and promote sustainability.
