Abstract:
As global energy consumption continues its upward trend; the use of renewable energy sources has also been on the rise. However, the intermittent nature of generation and the distance between large installations and demand centers often result in grid instability. High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) systems have been proposed to mitigate these issues and ensure a stable and reliable grid operation amidst the increasing deployment of renewable energy resources. This paper proposes a systematic approach to evaluate power systems that integrate PV and HVDC transmission systems. A comparative performance analysis of HVDC and HVAC Transmission Systems in the presence of PV generation, utilizing the IEEE-5-Bus Network is completed in this study, which can be replicated to other systems. In contrast to previous studies that focused on analyzing HVDC systems in isolated radial systems, this research investigates the deployment of an HVDC system into an entire network. The results of the study demonstrate the potential advantages of using HVDC transmission systems in power systems that integrate PV while providing a systematic approach to perform and analyze comparative studies.
