Abstract:
A boost converter is a device that offers a higher output voltage as compared to the input voltage and is often used in renewable energy applications. The typical classic boost converter can accept only one input and have low static gain. This paper presents a new dc-dc boost converter with n-inputs and n-Voltage Multiplier Cells (VMC). The input and output currents are continuous which will make the topology suitable for use with renewable energy. The inclusion of the VMCs in the proposed boost converter offers improved static gain at lower duty cycles and comparable efficiency in comparison with the classic boost. These characteristics make it possible to design a compact circuit for applications where isolation is not required. Calculations for the component values were conducted which were validated through simulation with MATLAB/Simulink. Both calculated and simulated efficiencies were examined.
