Abstract:

This work reports a broadband flared directional antenna offering -10dB impedance bandwidth within 0.967GHz - 1.27GHz band. The proposed antenna is printed on Rogers RO3010 substrate of thickness 1.6 mm and permittivity of 10.2 occupying a dimension of 60 × 80 mm 2and efficiently radiates electromagnetic (EM) energy. The rectangular electromagnetic wave radiating patch is designed with an offset-feed which helps in achieving directional performance while slotted ground helps in obtaining wider impedance bandwidth. The flares on top layer, which are isolated and placed adjacent to radiating patch and on bottom layer also contribute to higher directivity in the boresight direction. The simulated radiating energy peak gain varies between 0.723 - 2.30 dBi within the operating band. The fabricated prototype is verified with simulation results and a good agreement is noted. Due to compact size, directional performance and simple structure it is suitable for numerous wireless communication technologies such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B) Broadcast systems.
