Abstract:

Although millimeter wave (mmWave) mesh networks provide large bandwidth to deliver IoT packets, link failure caused by non-light-of-sight (NLoS) condition degrades network reliability. With the assistance of software defined networking (SDN), we propose a Fast link failure Recovery Routing (FastReRoute) framework to instantly re-route packets from the failed links to another ones minimizing packet loss. Upon a link fails, FastReRoute first re-routes packets via the pre-configured local backup path. FastReRoute conditionally re-routes packets again according to the management using the SDN controller. We integrate FastReRoute into Mininet for performance evaluation. This demonstrates FastReRoute effectively sustains the network reliability.
