Abstract:
The design of a motor control system using a Hewlett Packard HCTL-1000 motion control chip is described. The system is a self-contained unit for the control of DC motors, DC brushless motors, and stepper motors. The system consists of a controller and a motor driver. Motor drivers are designed for three- and four-phase DC brushless motors, three- and four-phase stepper motors, and DC motors. Software commands are written for operating the motor control systems. The software program includes commands needed for system start-up, control mode selection, reading of motor position/velocity, stop or continue, and input/output a digital signal for external interaction. Multiple controllers can be used for multiaxis motion control. The control algorithm for each axis is implemented by its own controller, and their actions are coordinated by a synchronizing signal.<>
