Abstract:

This paper describes a surface finishing inspection approach for machined metallic surfaces. We focused on an optical reflection property of the machined metallic surface. The optical reflection depends on the material and micro-structure of the object's surface. Therefore, optical reflection measurement is important to obtain a realistic representation in the inspection of industrial parts. In this study, we developed a compact reflectance measurement system using a fisheye camera. The system allows us to recognize the state of the surface reflection visually. We performed ray-tracing simulation with the camera system to adapt it to surface finishing inspection and carried out experiments using a prototype. Results of the simulation and experiment suggest that the system functions effectively.
