Abstract:

A small form factor, 79 GHz, MIMO radar sensor with 2D angle of arrival estimation capabilities was designed for automotive applications. It offers a 0.05 m distance resolution required to make small minimum distance measurements. The radar dimensions are 42×44×20 mm3 enabling installation in novel side locations. This aspect, combined with a wide field of view, creates a coverage that compliments the near range coverage gaps of existing long and medium range radars. Therefore, this radar supports novel radar applications such as parking aid and can be used to create a 360 degrees safety cocoon around the car.
