Abstract:

A 8-12 channel coding (modulation) method suitable for high-density recording for a home-use digital video cassette recorder (VCR) was developed. An areal recording density of 2.3 mu m/sup 2//b can be achieved by this 8-12 modulation method. A signal-to-noise ratio of 24.2 dB and a symbol error rate of about 1*10/sup -4/ were obtained experimentally on the tape-head simulator for current metal evaporated tape.<>
