Abstract:

Radio Standards Specifications (RSS) 102 Issue 1 was published in 1999. RSS 102 Issue 1 outlines Industry Canada's evaluation procedures used by certification applicants to determine the compliance of mobile and portable radio transmitters with Canadian radiofrequency (RF) exposure limits. Since the publication of RSS 102 Issue 1, more versatile and easier to use radiocommunication devices that offer a host of new services have been deployed. With the introduction and deployment of new technologies comes the need for new regulatory requirements. Industry Canada is revising RSS 102 Issue 1 to cover new wireless applications, mandate the use of internationally recognized measurement techniques, add new RF exemption limits, and address RF compliance methods. In addition to a change in title, the document has been reformatted and updated to reflect Industry Canada's current publication format practice.
