Abstract:
A crossed electrode two-dimensional (2-D) transducer array is described. The array permits real-time three-dimensional imaging using a small fraction of the elements required by a full two-dimensional array. Using this approach, the number of elements in an N/spl times/N 2-D array is reduced by a factor of N/4. Simulation results show that a radiation pattern comparable to one produced by a conventional linear phased array with a 50 wavelength aperture can be obtained using a crossed electrode array with 200 transmit and receive elements.
