Abstract:

Polarisation sensitive optical time domain reflectometry (POTDR) plays a key role in the analysis of polarisation mode dispersion (PMD) origins, and it may be useful also for inspection and testing of fiber production processes, from drawing to cabling. Till now, all the experimental results confirm that linear birefringence is a random process, very well described by the Wai-Menyuk model.
