Advanced Methods for Network Infrastructure Analysis and Security

This paper deals with network protocols and advanced network topology analysis to obtain detailed information. It describes possible approaches to explore and visualize network topology, to find remote devices (e.g., routers, firewalls, servers) and to discover topology and relations in remote networks. It also describes how to analyze and monitor network paths in real-time - not only to obtain important information, but also to detect and analyze changes in topology. One of the main goals of this article is the detection of network intrusion or malicious activities to increase network security. Part of the article is also a description of the implementation of developed software for finding routes, their visualization and further analysis. All steps and procedures are gradually and clearly explained with an emphasis on their real application.
