  • Abstract

As in the past years, this year's APSEC 2013 has continued the tradition of having associated events-tutorials, industry track, and postgraduate symposium. The tutorial program offers a chance to attendees to learn current interesting topics in several areas of software engineering. The industry track is a forum for technical presentations from practitioners from industry to promote awareness about their recent technological advances and enhance the extent of technical interaction and research collaboration between the industrial and academic circles. At the same time, we recognize the importance of postgraduate students' research and give an opportunity to postgraduate students to present and discuss their research ideas as well as meet fellow young researchers and senior researchers, working in the similar research topics, to establish research networks.

This year we offer 4 tutorials, selected from 6 tutorial proposals: 1) Requirements Engineering Based on REBOK (Requirements Engineering Body Of Knowledge) and Its Practice, led by Professor Mikio Aoyama of Nanzan University and his team which includes Dr. Takako Nakatani of University of Tsukuba, and Dr. Shinobu Saito and Yukako limura of NTT Corporation, 2) SAT and SMT: Their Algorithm Designs and Applications, by Professor Mizuhito Ogawa of JAIST and Dr. Khanh, To Van of Vietnam National University, 3) Model-Based Transition from Requirements to High-Level Software Design, by Professor Hermann Kaindl of Vienna University of Technology, and 4) Software Reuse Based on Business Processes and Requirements, also by Professor Hermann Kaindl.

The industry track comprises 12 presentations, selected from 16 submissions. It provides a balanced coverage encompassing various aspects, including software engineering methodologies, software testing, software maintenance, software process, software product line, formal methods, software engineering education, and embedded, real-time, and cloud software systems.

For the postgraduate symposium, there were 9 submissions and we accepted 3 of them for publication. The topics fall in the domains of software testing, verification and validation, software evolution, and empirical software engineering.

We would like to thank all authors and members of the program committee of APSEC 2013 associated events. It is their contribution that makes the events possible as a meeting place for both academia and industry in their pursuit of new advances in software engineering.
