Seismocardiography: waveform identification and noise analysis

The seismocardiogram (SCG) provides a convenient and reliable measure of left ventricular systolic and diastolic performance both at rest and immediately after exercise. An effective means has been developed to eliminate noise artifacts such as coughing, talking, and patient movement prior to any waveform averaging scheme. A computer algorithm has been developed to identify the significant points on the SCG waveform automatically. It accurately detects the mitral valve closure (MC), aortic valve opening (AO), onset of rapid ejection (RE), aortic valve closure (AC), mitral valve opening (MO), and the peak of rapid ventricular filling (RF) points, which allows for an automated method of calculating various quantitative indices off left ventricular systolic and diastolic performance.<
