Describes the application of a single-chip microcomputer in a high-altitude balloon instrumentation system. The system, consisting of a magnetometer, a stepping motor, a microcomputer and a gray code shaft encoder, is used to provide an orientation reference to point a scientific instrument at an object in space. The single-chip microcomputer, Intel's 8748, consisting of a CPU, program memory, dat... View full abstract»

  • The misunderstood twin-T oscillator

It is shown that the ideal symmetrical twin-T built with zero tolerance components requires an ideal amplifier with infinite gain to sustain oscillations. A systematic procedure is outlined to find out the minimum amplifier gain required to sustain oscillations as well as the frequency at which the circuit will oscillate, knowing the nominal values and tolerances of each component of the passive t... Straightforward conventions are described which allow an exact block diagram representation of digital filter structures. The description includes overload and quantization levels as well as the sequence of program execution. A digital filter simulation program is described which allows a choice of all register length and the type of arithmetic used. Each signal, each quantization perturbation and... View full abstract»

It is argued that a `post VLSI technology' will employ some type of `continuum processor' (CP) and will require simultaneous development of a device technology and system design procedures for the technology. View full abstract»
