For the purpose of introducing recent Japanese activities in these fields, several topics are described here. They are mainly represented in the Technical Community on Antennas and Propagation of IEICE, that is, the Institute of Electronics, Info... View full abstract»

The polarization requirements of EW and other systems often dictate that the antenna be capable of multiple polarizations, for example vertical, horizontal, and both senses of circular, i.e. V, H, RHCP, and LHCP. In some instances a fixed linear polarization such as +45° tilted linear can be used, but its response to the other polarizations involves polarization mismatch losses as shown in... This article addresses the requirements for angular sample spacing in performing far-field and near-field electromagnetic field measurements on a spherical surface, surrounding an antenna. The requirements presented are the minimum angular increments which preserve all the information present on the measurement surface, within a fixed dynamic measurement range of 100 dB. The rcsclting minimally sa... View full abstract»

In an article which appeared in the AP Newsletter last June I argued that the Woodward-Lawson pattern synthesis procedure is inefficient and should disappear from our textbooks. Dr. Steyskal has rebutted (see his letter in the October 1988 issue of the Newsletter) thus changing a dry monologue into a spirited and welcome dialogue, which I would like to continue by making a few counter comments.
