This paper discusses the build-up of third order intermodulation in a CATV system and presents a curve showing the required third order intermodulation (composite triple beat) level for high quality performance. A set of curves which show the relative readings between a power meter, signal level meter and spectrum analyzer, when measuring the third order intermodulation is also given. View full abstract»

In many situations customers' data sources will be low duty factor (e.g. randomly generated control signals, teletype keyboard outputs). Quality of service may be judged by the individual user in terms of overall transmission time as well as by error rate. Three systems are considered: The first is a base-line representing modest terminal equipment. Here each customer pair is multiplexed on a perm... View full abstract»

Since the introduction of television by wire in Gloucester, signals distributed on our systems have changed from a single channel in monochrome at 405-line standard, to our present state of four 625-line colour channels. View full abstract»

The importance of waveform response in television and pulse modulation was stressed by Thomson1 in 1952, a theme further to be emphasised by Lewis and Macdiarmid, and later reviewed by Theile;2 a theme which is as true today as it was in 1952. The quarter-century since then has seen the steady growth of cable television in this country; and the concurrent developments in television measurement tec... View full abstract»
