PLANE WAVE PROPAGATION IN PLANAR LAYERED MEDIA

This chapter examines the reflection and transmission of an electromagnetic (EM) plane wave from an isotropic, or anisotropic, and homogeneous planar material boundary. It presents the interaction of an EM plane wave from a planar multilayered or piecewise homogeneous medium. The chapter discusses the details of plane waves in anisotropic homogeneous media. It provides the information of reflection and transmission of a plane wave incident on a planar stratified isotropic medium using a transmission matrix approach. It describes the reflection and transmission of plane waves at the interface between two anisotropic half spaces, and transmission type matrix analysis of plane waves in multilayered anisotropic media.
