A Quantum‐Behaved Particle‐Swarm‐Optimization‐Based KNN Classifier for Improving WSN Lifetime

This chapter considers base station (BS) location as a solution to extend network lifetime in wireless sensor networks, where optimal location of the BS can reduce long distance communication and therefore also minimize energy consumption. A novel approach based on the hybridization of k‐nearest neighbor (KNN) and quantum‐behaved particle swarm optimization is adopted in this work. The chapter addresses some of the recent algorithms in the existing literature related to the work. It presents the network model and defines the methods used. Subsequently, the chapter discusses the proposed algorithm in detail. It proposes a novel approach to the optimal localization of the BS problem. Finally, the chapter presents a comparison between the proposed approach and the well‐known particle swarm optimization‐KNN.
