9 CONCLUSION

The emergence of biofabrication has been swift and, as we have seen throughout the course of this book, has already started to shape the future of a wide range of disciplines. Building on the observation that biological systems have an unparalleled ability to dynamically adapt to their surroundings, scientists and engineers have started to incorporate responsive biological materials into food, medical devices, consumer products, and even robots. These early innovations have shown that building with biology has tremendous potential to advance human health, safety, and productivity.
