CHAPTER 07 Development of Nanowire Based Sensors for Integration with Wearable Systems for Real Time, Continuous and Non-Invasive Health Monitoring

Wearable sensors are “smart” electronic devices that can be worn on the body, or even implanted to measure a range of data. Nearly all commercially available wearable devices, are focused on the personal health and fitness market, typically recording physical characteristics; such as number of steps taken, heart rate and calories burnt. Recent advances in Microelectronics, telecommunications, and sensor manufacture are opening up the possibility to develop semiconductor based wearable sensors, capable of providing actual real-time, continuous monitoring for a range of illnesses and medical conditions.
