8 Toward Smart Hospital: An Intelligent Personnel Scheduling Using Evolutionary Algorithms

The nurse scheduling problem (NSP) is defined as the operation research of assigning shifts to available nurses over a planning period with a number of constraints. We propose a method by grouping nurses into variable clusters, in which each cluster is served by a schedule improved by a grey wolf optimization (GWO). We obtain the results from GWO and compare with those from particle swarm optimization (PSO) and IBM CPLEX Studio Solver to evaluate the effectiveness of our algorithm.
