Fog‐Based Service Enablement Architecture

To enable microservices and service composition in fog computing networks, this chapter introduces a flexible, decentralized semantic‐based service composition model named as FogSEA. FogSEA can span along with the cloud‐to‐things continuum to process cross‐domain Internet of things requests. It manages microservices through a fog network that is formed by fog nodes. Fog nodes are the abstraction of devices that share their resource to the other devices in their vicinity. FogSEA utilizes microservices and allows them to be deployed on fog nodes. Each of the microservices can process a subtask of an IoT application. FogSEA aims to address two important issues that are microservices organization and microservices disambiguation. The chapter presents the evaluation on the performance of FogSEA in two parts: first, the FogSEA service composition model's communication effort and response time are measured and second, the communication effort are measured.
