6 Waiting to Play

Throughout the book, we have highlighted the ways in which mobile media, especially smartphone devices, are enabling users to engage in many kinds of digital play. They are used to socialize, to be antisocial, to experience mediated copresence, to be in the moment. As we have suggested in previous chapters, these forms of play take haptic, mobile, domestic, and urban features as both their context and content. Through the eyes and bodies of our householders, we have sought to reveal the complicated ways in which mobile games have become part of the rhythms of daily life.
