Amanda's self-reflection on her phone etiquette reveals much about the habits and sensory engagement we have with mobile screens, and the way we manage and negotiate our movement through offline and online worlds. Seemingly trivial gestures actually involve a wealth of deep attitudes about privacy, boundaries between work and play, social etiquette, and care for the device. The way our bodies interface with the matter of the screen is key to mobile media practices. In particular, the routines of bodily movement and interaction within the home are in many ways profoundly altered by mobile media, changing our experience of immediacy, proximity, distance, and togetherness in domestic space.
