Applications of Visual Cognition

Over the years, the scope of cognitive vision has extended over several other domains, such as autonomous driving, agroforestry, image forensics, health care, and visual query answering, just to name a few. Indeed, it may be appreciated that application of “cognitive vision” is not confined to some specific domains, but its principles may be applied to improve the performance of any computer vision task. This chapter analyzes a few of the computer vision applications, where cognitive principles have been successfully applied. It presents examples to illustrate the variety of the domains that have benefited from application of cognitive principles, and the diversity of the approaches that have been followed. The application examples include computational photography, digital heritage, social robots, and content re‐purposing.
