Smart and Intelligent E‐nose for Sensitive and Selective Chemical Sensing Applications

E‐nose is a very useful tool to identify and distinguish between complex and simple smell. There is a sensor array and different pattern recognition techniques used in the e‐nose system. The most important component of an e‐nose is a sensor array comprising of independent sensors giving response to vapors differently. It also consists of an information processing unit, a software for pattern recognition, and reference data. Conventionally, e‐nose was found to be applicable in chemical sensing and over the years it started creeping in biohealthcare and other areas. Aroma detection can be very significant in identifying the presence of gas/vapors. Although e‐nose is one of the finest solution as an error‐free and good learning model, there are certain challenges and scope of improvement in this area. Most of the e‐nose products are based on MOX sensors which have selectivity issues.
