Building Range Technologies

As said in the previous chapter, the boundary between a few rooms and “building” is not so clear. Indeed, it depends mainly on the deployment considered and the performances one wants to obtain in terms of accuracy and reliability. The differentiation made in this book is based on two aspects: the theoretical positioning accuracy achievable (typically better for the technologies described in Chapter 7) and the methodologies that allow, for the optical‐based technologies of this chapter, a whole building to be covered with a single device. Note that a specific chapter (Chapter 9) is devoted to indoor GNSS and thus is not dealt with here (bold in Table 8.1).
